How to steal somebody's MySpace layout

Tutorial by admin, last edited on March 12th, 2008

You were browsing through MySpace and found that incredibly awesome page. You want your page to look just like that, too! But how?

You may want to brush up on your HTML and/or CSS skills before you can really make "borrowing" somebody else's layout work for you but I can teach you the first steps to making that layout your own.

Step One: Find a layout

Find the person's layout you want to borrow. It's easy. You can search through people's pages and then keep clicking on all their friends until you find one you like.

Or maybe you already know what it is. Whatever the case, load it up in your browser.

Step Two: Open the source code

Some of you may be like- huh?! Source code? If you have Firefox, you should only have to hit CTR+U and it should open up. Voila, like magic.

If you are using Internet Explorer you should download Firefox or in IE6 choose View > Source and for IE7 go up to the little "Page" tab and choose View Source.

Myspace source code

Step Three: Find the treasure!

Next thing is to find the CSS. Where is it? Usually people post their CSS in their About Me section. So you use the Find function of your browser to locate where it says: About Me.

Easy as pie!

Find myspace source code

Underneath your About Me code will be something that says:

<style type="text/css">

Everything between that and the line that says </style> is the CSS you want to copy. Go ahead and copy everything including those lines of text.

Step Four: Make the escape

Now you need to implement this code. Go into your own "About Me" section, copy, paste, and you're done.

You may find some glitches in your profile. This just means that they used some profile-specific code and you're going to have to do some more code research to see just how to make it work for you.

If you have any trouble or suggestions to make this process easier or better, of if this was useful for you please leave a comment!
